Art

Year 7, 8 and 9

High Moor Park School and Sixth Form’s Art Department prides itself on offering a creative and diverse curriculum that nurtures students’ artistic talents. Our curriculum is designed to ensure that all students experience a wide range of skills, techniques, and processes, fostering the development of their unique abilities and ideas. Through this, we aim to build their confidence and self-belief in their artistic practices.

The curriculum is rich with various themes to spark the imagination and creativity of our students. By engaging with the works of both traditional and contemporary artists, students find inspiration for their own projects and learning journeys. This approach not only enhances their technical skills but also broadens their understanding and appreciation of different artistic styles and movements.

We also emphasise the importance of career awareness within the creative industries. By providing insights into possible career paths, we aim to inspire students to pursue their artistic passions beyond the classroom, particularly at the GCSE level. Our goal is to empower students to see the value and potential of their creative talents in the wider world, encouraging them to continue their artistic journey with confidence and enthusiasm.

Year 10 and 11

The GCSE course builds on students’ prior learning from KS3, enhancing their understanding of various skills and techniques while continuing to draw inspiration from artists, cultures, and other sources. As a department, we are enthusiastic about our students engaging with a wide variety of skills and techniques to enrich their creative experiences. We have high expectations that students work independently, integrating their personal ideas and experiences into their work.

We follow the AQA Art, Craft, and Design specification, which is divided into two components: 60% coursework and 40% externally set assignments. We ensure that all students receive engaging lessons and creative experiences that enable them to achieve their full potential. Students are encouraged to work beyond the classroom to fully embrace their creative practice and deepen their understanding of art.
