Sports Studies

The Cambridge Nationals in Sport Studies take a more sector-based focus, whilst also encompassing some core sport/Physical Education
themes. Students have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge about different types of sport and physical activity, skills
development and sports leadership to their own practical performance. They will learn about contemporary issues in sport such as
funding, participation, ethics and role models, and sport and the media. Students will develop an appreciation of the importance of sport
locally and nationally, different ways of being involved in sport and of how this shapes the sports industry.

Units/ Delivery Structure: The qualification is 4 units in length with two units delivered in the first year of the course and two units in the second year. Each unit is worth 60 marks with each mark related to a range of progressive criteria (marking bands). The marks awarded within each unit and will be added together to determine an overall result i.e. pass, merit, distinction.

Year 10

Sports Science

The Cambridge National Certificate in sports science is a vocational qualification in which the students will be assessed across 4 units and assessed in a variety of ways. Two of the units are mandatory and two are optional. The students’ will be taught all of the content outlined within the specification for each unit and then assessed on their knowledge and understanding.

A range of assessment strategies are used throughout the qualification to provide variety and an opportunity to develop and demonstrate new skills. Possible assessment methods include: posters, leaflets, fact sheets, practical application, written reports, essay, and presentations.
