Physical Education

Year 7

Students will explore and develop a range of social, physical and mental skills through a range of team and individual sports. Pupils will understand the importance of ‘physical literacy’.  Control motivation and teamwork are covered to project pupils onto a journey to develop their holistic self through sport.

Year 8

Students will experience the true power of sport and physical activity when it comes to their personal development. Pupils will continue to embed their social, physical and mental skills through a range of team and individual sports.  Developing competence and consistency.

Year 9

Students will build a connection with and understand how characters can be developed through PE and Sport. Consolidating their social, physical and mental skills through a range of team and individual sports, pupils will continue to develop positive personal characteristics.

Year 10

Students will understand how sport and physical activity can be an important tool to developing their leadership skills. Schemes of work including ‘Fulfilling Potential’, ‘Effective Teams’ and ‘Self-reflection’ will support students to understand their own leadership qualities and experience what makes an effective leader.

Year 11

Students will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to have good health and well being and will explore different ways to keep active as they leave school. Through ‘Active for Life’, students will embed their understanding of the importance of physical activity and the many benefits associated to allow students to remain active for the rest of their lives.

In addition to the curriculum the Expressive Arts Faculty offers the opportunity for students to be enriched through a wide variety of clubs being offered both at lunch time and after school. Students have the opportunity to showcase their considerable performance considerable talents in tournaments and are encouraged to represent the school in sports teams,  and in both local and national competitions.

GCSE PE

This ambitious course is perfect for pupils who participate in sport outside of school as well as having a keen interest in the theory behind the way the body functions during exercise.

Pupils are assessed in several ways including; practically in three sports, via examination of two 60-minute test papers (Paper 1 – Physical factors affecting performance & Paper 2 – Socio-cultural issues and sports psychology) and within a piece of coursework.
