Music

Year 7, 8 and 9

At Moor Park High School and Sixth Form students in year 7 – 9 can enjoy learning Music through imaginative practical music making, designed to give a thorough theoretical understanding of the subject.

Students will develop their musical knowledge and understanding alongside practical music making skills and the ability to explore and create their own musical pieces. They will also develop confidence, presentation and teamwork skills.

There are a wide range of extra-curricular activities available to all pupils, of all skill levels. Students have the opportunity to showcase their considerable talents in public performances each term.

Students are also eligible to apply for a Performing Arts Scholarship, which provides exceptional quality Music or Speech and Drama lessons free of charge. Students are offered tuition delivered by experience qualified teachers. Instruments are provided and all participants are encouraged to take regular examinations in their specialism.

Year 10 and Year 11 – GCSE Music (Eduqas)

Music GCSE is accessible to all students who enjoy music and have made the most of their access to the subject in years 7 – 9.

30% of the exam involves performance so students will need to be able to work independently on improving their skills in this area. The ability to demonstrate how students think creatively in order to create musical compositions is worth another 30% of the course. The written examination in the summer term of year 11 is 40% of the course and allows students to demonstrate their musical knowledge and understanding of the topics covered: Musical Forms and Devices, Music for Film, Music for Ensembles and Popular Music.
