Important Information for Year 11

A Level and BTEC Bridging Work

You may already be aware that most pupils are now studying remotely using the Microsoft Teams programme and will continue to do so until it is safe for schools to reopen. Our A Level teachers here at sixth form have been working hard to ensure that your child is fully prepared for further study at college and we have put together a programme of study to support this transition.

As of Monday 20th April, your child has been able to access a whole range of subject-specific work, which they can complete and submit for feedback from teachers. We have encouraged all pupils to complete this work and receive feedback from teachers as it will allow them the best possible start to their sixth form experience in September. This work was initially designed for Year 11 pupils who are staying with us to study at sixth form, but we have now made it available for all pupils to access, regardless of their destination of choice.

In addition, our sixth form learning mentor is also regularly sharing enrichment activities via a weekly newsletter. These activities and updates offer a range of things that your child can be doing at home, such as wider reading and interesting documentaries.

As a final note, given the popularity of our smaller class sizes and the likelihood of continued social distancing measures until a vaccine is available, we have decided to re-open applications for sixth form to internal applicants only. With a maximum class size of 10 students, we are wholly confident that when schools do reopen, we will continue to provide a safe, secure environment for your child. If your son/daughter did not apply to sixth form earlier in the year, or chose to study elsewhere and would now like an application form, they should contact me either by the main school telephone number or by emailing [email protected] with the reference ‘sixth form application’.

If you do require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me via the main school telephone number. In the meantime, please continue to stay safe and look after one another.

Year 11 Transition to Sixth Form

First of all, may I take this opportunity to say how much we are looking forward to welcoming your son/daughter to study with us here at Moor Park Sixth Form in September.

As you know, we are a small sixth form, with a maximum class size of 10 students, so we are wholly confident that when schools do reopen we will continue to provide a safe, secure environment for your child, with our smaller student numbers easily allowing for socially distant lessons and study for as long as is required, which is likely to be until a vaccine is available. On average, we have a ratio of 5 sixth form students to 1 teacher in a classroom, so we are well-placed to ensure that your child’s education is not disrupted in any way due to social distancing measures.

I hope that this letter provides you will all the information you/your child need over the next few months. We will look forward to seeing your son/daughter for GCSE Results Day on Thursday 20th August, when they will confirm their final subject choices and complete the enrolment process for sixth form.

Exams

**3 April – Important update from Ofqual Chief Regulator – please see link below**

Until the publication of final grades in the summer, school will not be able to discuss the grades that have been submitted to the exam boards. If we do discuss these grades then it puts the entire system at risk. We understand the stress and anxiety that this has caused and we can assure parents and students that we will be doing all we can to ensure that the calculated grades are a fair reflection of the performance of the students.

Further details on arrangements for exams which have been cancelled to fight the spread of coronavirus have been released by the Government and are detailed below
